Nikolai Shurygin, a Russian artist, was born in 1957 in Kimry, Russia.
He graduated from Moscow School of Applied Arts (design) in 1979.
For 10 years Nikolai has been studying a unique technique of painting, multilayered painting, which secrets were then lost.
This technique was also used by flemish painters as well as Russian painters such as Kiprensky, Levitsky, Borovikovsky and many others.
The technique produces a very realistic outcome, an incredible realism of depicted subject whether a human face or any texture. It takes from 4 - 12 months to produce a portrait or a still-life using this technique
These are some of his works..
I also found this profile of his (I hope so..)
on DeviantArt.
So to those interested, check out his other paintings as well..
